Reluctant sale of our custom built Thorn Child back Tandem with Rohloff Hub gears and S&S coupling system so it comes apart. This bike is really an amazing piece of machinery. Always stored indoors and therfore in excellent condition.

We originally bought it for a European trip which Covid scuppered, but it has been brilliant for the school run and rides around the area we live in. Family seperation unfortunately means we won't be getting two of these and with 2 children aged 8 & 6 I can no longer get them both on it. So it sadly has to go. It is a dream to ride either alone or with a passenger.

Perfect for dropping off or picking up a child in this sense. Much better than a tag-a-long and definitely the safest way to transport little ones. Fully loaded with front and back heavy duty panniers plus a seat for a third child if needed. Ready for any round the world expedition or simply use for the school run and riding at the weekends. 14 speed Rohloff Hubb gears.

Those not familiar with this gear system (I wasn't but can't imagine riding anything without now) they enable you to change gears while stationary - on a hill, fully loaded. A real game changer for longer bike rides! S&S coupling system which allows the bike to come apart very easily in 2 parts meaning transportation - the biggest/only downside of owning a Tandem is no longer an issue. It fits into a regular sized car. I had it in the back of a Ford C-Max on a few occasions.

Frame size and front handle bar neck extension allows a rider of between 5'2 - 6ft to be at the front. A child from age 5 (ish) through to teenager on the back. My wife and I are 5'4 and 5'11 and alternated no problem as front rider.

Ready for any expedition - or the weekly shopping run. Extra long handlebars for child back. These enable the pillion passenger to sit upright if need be while still holding on.

I also have the original shorter ones included in the sale as spares. Foot rests for Child back. These are invaluable and allow the pillion passenger to rest their feet up while you carry on pedalling. A bit of communication is needed so you know when he/she is putting their feet up and down but we simply told ours to shout'feet up' or'feet down' whenever she wanted to rest or pedal and never a problem. This place would be more ideally suited perhaps to a smaller child aged 1-3 in an appropriate child seat.

We used this one from the age of 4 upwards when they have a bit more coordination and patience for sitting still. My youngest is now 6 and too much weight for her and my 8 year old together on this so much as they do try it's causing too many arguments just owning the one so time to sell it on to someone with more appropriate aged children. Ideally suited to just one child - or as long as you're confident with the extra weight at the back when manoeuvring the bike - 2 children ages 1-3 and 5+.
