1964MOULTON Standard, 3 Speed Bicycle, Mk 1, Rare Vintage. I originally bought three of these Moultons to restore. I have completed a mk2and started on this mk1.

I found that the original front forks where bent with a kink them where someone tried to straighten them resulting in the wheel not running straight, so I sourced. Replacement forks from the Moulton Preservation Society.

Stripped and rebuilt the front suspension with the replacement forks. And the both the front and rear suspensions work at they should. The rear forks shows no signs of cracks, they are in original form and should be strengthened as recommended by the MPS. Including additional spare mk1rear carrier complete with the required replacement support. The frame has been overpainted maroon at some point in the past, including an attempt to paint the Moulton Standard logo by hand.

The 3 speed gears work, original tyres/tubes still hold air and I have even managed a short ride down the street on it. Both the brake and gear cables are still original. Original handle bar grips are in OK condition if a little dirty - my mk2 ones were like this and they cleaned up very nicely. Chrome work all over is reasonable for its age.

I haven't started to clean it up yet but I think it will polish up OK. My intention was to get the rear forks strengthened by the MPS, and then strip and repaint the frame parts and carrier and source some new Moulton transfers before lacquering (as I did so for my mk2). Overall the bike seems to be in sound mechanical shape. Time to pass this iconic vintage wonder to someone else. To either use as is, restore to original former glory or to remodel with modern alloy parts for a modern retro looking bike.

The bicycle has been dry stored in a dehumidified garage since I bought it about 3years ago. The item "1964 MOULTON Standard, 3 Speed Bicycle, Mk 1, Rare Vintage, plus spare rear rack" is in sale since Saturday, October 17, 2020. This item is in the category "Sporting Goods\Cycling\Bikes".
